23 Sep STAFF TEAM TAKE ON GREAT NORTH RUN AND RAISE CLOSE TO £2,000!

A four-strong team including staff recently took on the Great North Run representing the Huddersfield Town Foundation, raising a fantastic £1,920!

Education Mentor Adam Halliday, Premier League Kicks Manger Joe Scargill, NCS Assistant Manager ‘Nemo’ and her Dad Paul tackled the half marathon route.

The group started in the middle of Newcastle on the central motorway, passing Jesmond and Central Station before arriving on the Newcastle side of the Tyne Bridge.

After crossing the bridge into Gateshead and banking a few more miles into south Tyneside the quartet, and circa 60,000 other runners, finished with a view of the sea in South Shields.

Although admittedly a tough experience, the runners all expressed their sense of pride at completing the challenge.

The money raised will go into the Foundation’s unrestricted funding pot, meaning it can be used on any project not supported by another funder.

It is likely that the majority will support the ‘Early Kick-Off’ Breakfast Clubs, which currently ensure children start their day the right way in 40 local schools.

Nemo said:

“I found the run hugely challenging, however every step of the way I was motivated by the fact I had raised money for the Foundation.

“It was a great achievement to do as a team and I am really proud of all of us. To top it off I was able to do the race with my Dad which is something I won’t ever forget.”

Joe Scargill added:

“The Town Foundation has been providing breakfast clubs for over a decade now and it was an absolute honour to play my small part in helping to support them further.

“My huge thanks to Lisa and the team for organising our participation and keeping us motivated. Thanks also the Morrisons Foundation whose generous match funding scheme doubled my total from £275 to £550!”

The Town Foundation is likely to apply for places in the Great North Run, and potentially other full marathons, in 2023.
