24 Jan FOUNDATION ANOUNCE BIG SLEEP OUT 7 TO TAKE PLACE ON FRIDAY 28 MARCH
After a year off, get your sleeping bags at the ready and join Huddersfield Town Foundation in their seventh instalment of their Big Sleep Out fundraiser that takes place on Friday 28 March at the John Smith’s Stadium!
We are encouraging supporters to join in with the event which over the past 8 years has raised a brilliant £170,000. This year’s event will see people brave the night to raise some much-needed funds for local Huddersfield based charity The Welcome Centre who are one of the largest independent food banks in the UK, as well as the Foundation’s Breakfast Clubs programme, which helps to give children in Kirklees the best possible start to a day of learning, serving over 2.5 million breakfasts since its inception.
On the launch of the event, Foundations Head of Finance & Compliance, Fraser Clark said:
“After a year away, we are really pleased to be bringing back our Big Sleep Out fundraiser. The money raised over the years has provided much needed funds for a variety of great causes that help to battle poverty in and around the Kirklees area, along with our breakfast club programme which has continued to provided children who need it most with a healthy breakfast before there school day. We have seen with the rising cost of living how more and more people are requiring support, and we are really proud to be partnering with The Welcome Centre who are a charity providing such vital support.”
The Welcome Centre, Fundraising Manager, Charlie Taylor noted:
“Last year alone, The Welcome Centre provided over 386,000 meals to people in Huddersfield facing food crises. It’s a staggering number, but it reflects the real challenges many individuals and families in our community are facing. But we’re more than just a food bank. Every person who receives a food pack is also offered tailored support through our in-house advice, guidance, and support service. Our mission is to address the root causes that bring people to us and work toward sustainable solutions, so they can regain control over their lives. None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our team of 146 volunteers. With your fundraising support, we can continue offering these vital services so that we can provide food and solutions to those who need it most.“
Why not challenge family or friends to spend the night, or use it as a meaningful teambuilding exercise for your business and work colleagues? Brave contestants will be kept warm throughout the night with hot drinks and snacks.
Upon arrival, attendees will set up their dens for the night in the Chadwick Lawrence stand, whether that be in the concourse or the stand looking down on the pitch.
The event will conclude at 7am the morning after, when participants will say their goodbyes having hopefully had an eye-opening experience.
Although only for one night, the aim is to try and give participants an insight into the struggles that homeless people deal with on a day-to-day basis.
Participants pay a £15 registration fee (fee includes Big Sleep Out Wolley Hat) to confirm their place and are asked to fundraise at least £150 per person to take part in the event.
