07 Jul FOUNDATION COLLECT AWARD FOR GRASSROOTS PROJECT

The Huddersfield Town Foundation has been awarded a Grassroots Award from the West Riding County FA.

Town’s Charity scooped the ‘Grassroots Project of the Year’ award for the EmployAbility project managed by a consortium with Disability Sport Yorkshire and Shelley Community FC.

The EmployAbility project is an inclusive programme that allows people age 16+ with any disability an opportunity to gain training and development for 12 weeks to increase employability skills, leadership and independence.

In 2018, 30 students started the course and 21 completed with 6 students gaining employment!

The course provided students with hands on experience in a sporting venue and facilitated the progression onto volunteering roles with a local football clubs; Shelley FC, Huddersfield Town Foundation and Huddersfield Town match days.

Some of the students progressed and completed an inclusive FA level 1 in Coaching Football course.

The EmployAbility course has empowered people with a disability to explore a route into volunteering and employment.

Awais Akhtar, one of the participants attended the event (pictured) said:

“It has really improved my confidence; I’m now volunteering regularly at Huddersfield Town Foundation and I have completed an FA Level 1 football coaching qualification.”

Ana Mesarovic, Disability Development Officer for the Town Foundation added:

“We are proud to have received the award from the West Riding FA award and this programme is a great example of our one club one community strategy, where by we provide equal opportunities for all of our participants”
