07 Jan THE TOWN FOUNDATION’S BIG CHANT IS BACK IN COLLABORATION WITH MUSICA KIRKLEES!
The Huddersfield Town Foundation’s Big Chant is back for a third year, in collaboration with Musica Kirklees.
The Big Chant aims to engage local school children in creative musical composition based on chants from the stands at Huddersfield Town’s John Smith’s Stadium. Previous year’s competitions have seen over 2300 children from more than 50 different schools across Kirklees take part.
The 2019 winners were Marsden Junior School with their Town-themed interpretation of Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings, complete with break dancing and expert flossing! They saw off fierce competition from the likes of Crossley Fields, Linthwaite Clough and Highbank.
Prizes will be awarded for first place winners in years three, four, five and six. Overall competition winners will be offered the chance to perform their chant on the pitch at a Huddersfield Town home fixture! Additionally, they will be rewarded with a visit to their school from some very special guests.
The Town Foundation’s Head of Education & Sport, Katie Suttron commented:
“We are thrilled to see the return of the Big Chant 2020. It’s always exciting to see new competition entries and the creativity across our local schools.
The Big Chant offers students and their teachers the opportunity to create a class project and work together as a team.
We are always overwhelmed by the level of engagement that we receive.â€
Getting involved with music through lessons and playing in bands has been proved to bring a wealth of social, emotional and educational benefits to people of all ages.
