13 Oct SUMMER NCS GRADUATE OUTLINES BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAMME
During the Summer the Huddersfield Town Foundation delivered its digital NCS programme known as ‘Keep Doing Good’.Â
Although condensed down to one week of activity and delivered virtually, the programme was still an enjoyable experience for those taking part.Â
We asked 16-year-old participant Lauren Farrar about her experience with the Town Foundation ahead of its next instalment, set to take place in October Half Term.Â
Before the Summer programme Lauren, who lives in Dewsbury, admitted she was nervous as she hadn’t done anything like NCS before.Â
She also explained that ever since the Town Foundation visited her school to introduce the programme, she knew it was an experience she wanted to give a try.Â
Lauren and her fellow participants took part in some team building activities, including a personality test, before being introduced to the local charities they were to work with.Â
She particularly enjoyed working on the Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s 20th birthday fundraising pack, because there were lots of different aspects to that project.Â
On the difference the NCS programme has had on her, Lauren commented:Â
“I am now more aware of charities around me and what I am able to do in order to support them, because we were given great insight into the work they do.Â
“I feel I have achieved things like being able to take part in a course online and give my input and ideas to people I have never met before. I can also now take in their ideas and create a wider perspective on things through teamwork.â€
There are still places available for 16-17-year olds based in North Kirklees to take part in our Autumn programme, which is being held at the Batley Bulldogs Stadium.Â
The course is completely free, and youngsters will have the chance to do a range of indoor and outdoor activities. In addition, they will take part in workshops on confidence building, public speaking, local democracy engagement and more!
Registration can be done online via the NCS website – simply enter your details and you will be assigned to the Town Foundation’s programme.Â
If you have any issues with the sign up process or any questions about the programme, please contact NCS Coordinator Evan Hall on evan.hall@htafcfoundation.com or 07741 671 599 in the first instance.Â
