LONDON MARATHON RUNNERS RAISE JUST SHORT OF £4,000!

A team of runners recently took on the London Marathon, raising close to £4,000 including gift aid for the Huddersfield Town Foundation!

Jason Edwards, Danny Hardwick and Sarah Stockwell, who are all Town fans, completed the 26.2 miles proudly bearing the Foundation logo on their running vests on Sunday 2 October 2021.

Although it was clearly a mentally and physically challenging day, all three remarked at just how much they enjoyed the experience.

Jason completed the in-person event in five hours and 17 minutes in London, which was broadcast to the globe on the BBC. He said of the day:

“It was an excellent experience; the crowds were amazing and really kept me going when I was struggling in the last quarter of the race.

“The event was really awesome to be part of, wearing the vest of the Foundation in front of all those people. It really was great to see such diversity amongst the crowds and different parts of London, all coming together.”

Danny and Sarah took part in the virtual London Marathon, completing their miles in their native Yorkshire.

Danny, who recorded a time of four hours, 54 minutes and 26 seconds, commented on the mental aspect of the day:

“I felt as prepared as I could’ve been going into it, but it got tough after 18 miles and it took a lot of positive mentality to keep going. Big thanks to my dad for riding alongside me!”

After five hours and 53 minutes of running Sarah remarked:

“Wow, what can I say? Completing the Marathon on the day was everything I thought it would be – challenging, exhausting and gruelling but so much more rewarding than I could ever have imagined!

“The amazing support I received from family, friends and the Whitechapel Primary School community was both inspirational and motivating and definitely kept me going when it was tough. Thank you to the Foundation for giving me the opportunity to show those around me what you can do if you dig deep and persevere.”

The money raised will go into the Foundation’s unrestricted funding pot, meaning it can be used wherever needed most in the local community. Example projects include Breakfast Club, Walking Football and Sporting Memories.

This was the latest running challenge taken on by Foundation supporters, with a group also recently partaking in the Great North Run in Newcastle. To find out more about this, please click HERE.

Lisa Bottomley, Fundraising Executive at the Town Foundation added:

“I’d like to thank Jason, Danny and Sarah for all of their efforts – both on the day but also in the lead up to the event, raising funds and putting in such a significant amount of training.

“It was great to see so much support for them on social media and I’m glad they all enjoyed the experience whilst raising such a fantastic amount of money.”

The Town Foundation aims to facilitate places in both the Great North Run and London Marathon in the future.
