FOUNDATION TAKEOVER BORO GAME!

Huddersfield Town Foundation celebrated and showcased the wide range of work they do in the community at Town’s game against Middlesbrough.

The fixture was dedicated to the Foundation to give us a spotlight and raise awareness on the great work we do in the community through the programmes we run across our four key impact areas: health and healthy behaviours, learning and education, movement and activity, and safe spaces and places.

We would like to issue a big thank you to fans of both clubs for their generosity, raising over £900 in cash donations. Those wanting to donate can do so by texting HTF to 70331 to give £3.

The day began at Leeds Road Sports Complex, where a team from the Foundation’s Premier League Kicks and Wellbeing Football programmes played against respective sides from the MFC Foundation.

The Kicks participants from both Foundations interacted brilliantly with each other during the fixture and showed great respect for each other before joining in on a workshop on critical thinking.

On the astroturf, the Wellbeing Football sides played out a competitive fixture, but both sides found strength in each other, and the game got the participants interacting and talking.

There was a special ‘Spot the Ball’ competition with an image of a Town match from the ‘70s. Many people had a go at guessing the correct letter to be entered into a prize draw, and those that took part were able to learn about ‘Terriers Talk’, which is a weekly one-hour online session for passionate Huddersfield Town fans, whether they are located in the local area or further afield, to combat isolation.

Those in the area would have also heard the jams of Terrier Brass, who played a host of songs recognisable to the ears of Town fans.

If you picked up a copy of ‘The Terrier’, you will have been able to read more about the Foundation’s programmes, as well as impact stories on the effect they have on people’s lives.

Before kick-off, several of our Big Sleep Out attendees conducted a lap of honour in front of a packed-out John Smith’s Stadium after spending the night in an empty Chadwick Lawrence Stand the week prior. You can still donate to our Big Sleep Out General Donations Page by CLICKING HERE!

As the players walked out onto the pitch, pupils from Moldgreen Community Primary School were lucky enough to represent the Foundation as flag-bearers. Moldgreen benefits from the delivery of our Premier League Primary Stars programme, which uses children’s passion for football to engage them in their learning.

During the half-time break, two groups from the Foundation’s Tomorrow’s Terriers development programme showcased two small drills as a taster for those watching. These sessions are available to children aged between five and 11 years old. On sale now are our new 11-week block, which you can find out more about this by CLICKING HERE.

Overall, it was a fantastic day that was made even more special by Town’s second-half performance as they scored four goals to gain a valuable three points, all whilst they donned the Foundation’s logo on their match shirt.

We hope you took away a lot from our game and have a greater understanding of the various work that the Foundation does in your community.
