Developed in partnership with the National Literacy Trust, Premier League Reading Stars is designed for reluctant and less able readers in Year 5 and 6. Premier League Reading Stars enables pupils to view reading differently, with football-based lessons inspiring pupils and keeping them engaged throughout.
The resources used in this intervention allow pupils to link reading to real life scenarios, helping them to appreciate the importance of being able to read and encouraging reading for enjoyment. We have an array of books that pupils can take away to read at home. Upon their return, pupils will discuss books they have read in a press conference style scenario, which will assist them to learn from their peers.
Research conducted by the National Literacy Trust has found that pupils who engage in this programme increase their reading age significantly over the 10 week programme. What’s more, feedback from schools indicates that pupil confidence and engagement in lessons increases as a direct result of participating in this intervention.
In 2017/18 we delivered this programme to five cohorts.
